Frequently Asked Questions About Lizz Winstead

1. Who is Lizz Winstead?
Lizz is a stand-up comedian from Minneapolis, the youngest daughter of Ginny & Wilbur Winstead. For more information, as well as a brief summary of her career, just go to
All About Lizz.

2. Why did Lizz leave "The Daily Show", and has she been on TV at all since she left?
Right now, Lizz has been devoting some time to stand-up comedy, and she already has been presented with offers from a few networks. Plus, she is slated to join the cast of a pilot for ABC. (For more info, go to
Lizz Winstead In The News.) She has also co-hosted CNBC's "Equal Time".
This sudden period of freedom came after she decided to leave "The Daily Show", a show she co-created with Madeleine Smithberg, who produced "Saturday Night Live", and give up her position as head writer and move on after a derogatory comment from host Craig Kilborn in an article from Esquire magazine. Lizz complained that "Daily" had evolved into a "host-driven" show, and not a "content-driven" show.
If you want to learn more on this story, as well as my opinion on why she left, click here. To find out if Lizz will appear on any TV shows in the future, go to Lizz Winstead In The News.

3. How come we don't see Lizz on any late night talk shows like Leno or Letterman?
Not true. She has appeared on "Politically Incorrect" in January - if you count that as a legitimate late-night talk show.
I get pissed too when I turn on Leno, Conan, Letterman and even Tom Snyder (he has a political satirist/comedian on his show now and then) and find that they have a comic appearing Lizz Winstead. For well-known comics, like Dennis Miller and George Carlin, I'll make an exception. But how can I look at Jimmy Tingle or Andy Kindler or Susie Essman and not think, "That should be Lizz. I can't believe another probably unfunny comedian is on tonight, when Lizz can use the exposure the most". No offense, but I'm assuming that she does have a lot of spare time, and she could benefit from the exposure of the late-night talk show circuit in her time of need.
In fact, I have sent e-mails to all four of the aforementioned shows week after week to let them know (if they care to read them, of course) that they're leaving somebody out.
One more factor you have to consider is that maybe Lizz doesn't want to be on any late-night talk shows right now. Maybe she's working on a movie or something. Nobody is going to pull your arm to go on "The Late Show" or "The Tonight Show" if you don't want to do it. And maybe Lizz doesn't feel like doing this right now. As always, I'll keep you posted should Lizz be scheduled to appear on any late-night talk show, or any show, on
Lizz Winstead In The News.

4. What TV shows has Lizz appeared on?
You can get a very accurate listing of the many shows that Lizz has appeared, as well as production credits, on
the credits page.

5. How can I find out which comedy clubs Lizz will be playing next?
Just go to
the news page. When dates become available to my knowledge, I will post them.

6. How can I found out what shows Lizz will be appearing on next?
Like I said before, just go to
the news page. In fact, I'm going to start listing airdates of reruns of shows Lizz has appeared on as well; I think new Lizz fans have the right to see some of her previous work, and new Lizz fans are no different than current ones.

7. Is Lizz married?
I'm not sure. While her mantra for years has been "I think, therefore I'm single", there have been a couple of clues that have led me to speculate on her, um, un-single-ness.
The first clue was when I was on this one website that had the same quote (it's EVERYWHERE, you know), and after the quote, the guy put, "(un)fortunately, no longer true".
Another hint was right on "The Daily Show" back in 1997, when she had mentioned something about "my husband" in one of those now-defunct "He Said/Winstead" segments.
If there was a marriage, sorry, I have zero details. Maybe it was a quickie marriage, because Lizz went on Charles Grodin earlier this year and had mentioned that she lives alone, with her cat, or something.

8. Most stand-up comedians have albums out, which are usually recorded live. Does Lizz have any albums out as of yet?
No, none that I know of. I even went as far as a Minneapolis record store, just to e-mail them and ask if there were even local recordings of her early stand-up acts.

9. Why should we care about Lizz?
Quite frankly, whether or not you want to care about her is solely up to you. This website is not here to force people into something they don't like. In other words, we are not coming down on you like your mother with Brussels Sprouts. This website is here as a public service, to inform people of this talented comedian.
Those who care about her, of course.

Frequently Asked Questions About LIZZLAND

1. Where did LIZZLAND come from?
LIZZLAND is from the mind of me, King Of All Lizz Winstead Fans, who figured it was time for a spectacular website based on one of the funniest comedians in the country.

2. Why are there so many banner advertisements on LIZZLAND?
In case you haven't noticed (and it's virtually impossible not to), there are about fifteen banners on nearly every page of this site. (On the Java Chat page, there are only two banners; there are absolutely none on the news pages.)
Banner advertising is how I get most of the Netizens, if you will, to come and experience LIZZLAND. They seem to be doing a good job; the number of hits says it all.
However, I don't want to drive away potential visitors with the number of abnners on the main page (the first page they see after entering). So I improvised: At the bottom of the page is a scrolling message reminding the visitors to be patient as there are so many banners on the page. There's even a "homemade" banner at the top of the page with Austin Powers, who reminds you to wait as the site loads and advises you, "Don't have a thrombone!"

3. What is the purpose of LIZZLAND?
LIZZLAND's aim is to keep those who are fans of Lizz Winstead informed as to where she will be appearing in comedy clubs, as well as on TV, and offer a cornucopia of Lizz-oriented segments.

4. Where do you get your information for LIZZLAND?
I get most of my information primarily from sources on the Internet, including Pioneer Planet and the Star Tribune from Minneapolis, the Los Angeles Times, TV Guide, and Deja News. I also use the various search engines like Yahoo! and Hotbot. I do all the work, so you won't have to.

5. How did LIZZLAND get started?
At first, I was considering buying out a domain name, but I wasn't in the mood for paying for the domain each month, as least not while Lizz's popularity hasn't reached the mainstream yet. I guess you can say I'm a po' boy. So I had to decide between free home page providers, and I chose tripod because I didn't want a website URL with such a long name. I figured the shorter the URL, the easier to remember.
When the site first went up in late January, it was just one lousy page with a guestbook, and a chat room, and a big picture of Lizz on it. Then when I learned how to do a web site with frames, I expanded my possibilities. I informed on the site when LIZZLAND would evolve from one page with a picture and a chat room, into a big-time Lizz Winstead information universe. The day was February 13. I even had a clock at the bottom of the page counting down to February 13 at 12:00 noon EST. I had turned it into a semi-extravaganza. And for the first few people lucky enough to log on during the first couple of hours, it was like they were checking out a house they just moved into, it had that same feeling, I think.
My first batch of visitors came through links to websites, like
KOAM.COM. Soon, I learned how to make banners through Adobe Photoshop. I started eith Link Exchange, Banner Express, and I went absolutely nuts! Each banner does pay off in due time, however: at the time of the production of this FAQ (the first week of April), this site is approaching 5,000 hits in only three months! Imagine if I didn't do banner advertising, I'd probably reach 5,000 hits around the same time next year, maybe later! But I'm not into this for the hits; I'm into this for Lizz, of course.

6. Isn't it a little too late for LIZZLAND now that Lizz is off "The Daily Show"?
It was a goal for me to put up a website about Lizz Winstead, and I have achieved it. Fact is, back then, I didn't have the knowledge, or the time. By asking that question, you are implying that Lizz's career will be done soon. I have faith for Lizz. She's not a quitter, and I don't think she'll be quitting anytime soon; her talent will take her far.
That's about all I can tell you as far as why LIZZLAND is here as long and as late as it is.

7. How many hits does LIZZLAND generate regularly?
On an average day, between 40 to 50 hits. You can view the total tally since its late January launch on the bottom of the
main page.

8. Why are there as much visitors to LIZZLAND?
I believe it's mostly due to the many banner exchange services that I have been advertising LIZZLAND through. These are eye-catching banners, by the way, and pretty soon, I'd like to put up a page of all the banners I have made for LIZZLAND for advertising purposes. LIZZLAND can also be found in several search engines as well.

9. Do you think many of the people who experience LIZZLAND for the first time ever come back later?
I believe only the true die-hard Lizz fans would come here more than once. There is a handful of Lizz fans out there, and this site will either increase that number, or it will not. The worse thing we can do (and can't, I think because there isn't anything that would offend them) is decrease that number.

10. I have information about Lizz Winstead that I would like to be displayed on LIZZLAND. Whom should I notify?
That would be me, at
lizzland@mail.com. Please do not send me any false information. By making me put false info on LIZZLAND, you disappoint Lizz's fans, you disappoint me, but most of all, you disappoint Lizz herself. And you definitely wouldn't want to disappoint Lizz, now would you?

11. Are there any other Lizz Winstead sites on the Internet other than LIZZLAND?
Only one -
The Lizz Winstead Appreciation Society - from a guy named Scott. While I don't dream of destroying his site totally (LIZZLAND is a circus compared to Scott's site - sorry, Scott), I give him credit for being the very first on the Internet with a Lizz website. Truth is, it isn't updated often, and there isn't much info about her on that site as you'll find here at LIZZLAND. [Webmaster's addendum: Last check, August 2000, his website still sits with nary an update in two years. But it's still there.]

12. Has Lizz ever seen LIZZLAND herself?
I'm not certain. I say that because in my private guestbook (sorry, all), in one of the entries, where it says "What do you think of Lizz Winstead?", it reads, "I am Lizz Winstead". It could have been Lizz herself, or it could have been an impostor. I really don't know. The message doesn't prove anything. But if if was from the real Lizz: Hope you enjoy the site. [Webmaster's addendum: Yes, she has seen this website. ;)]

13. Are you considering moving LIZZLAND to another free homepage service, or perhaps to an Internet domain provider who will provide your site with a distinct domain name?
Right now, I'm satisfied with Tripod. When the time comes, probably when Lizz inks a sitcom deal or embarks on a movie career, I might indulge in buying out a domain name like "lizzland.com" - if it's not yet reserved, of course - but it will be worth every penny if that is the case. [Webmaster's addendum: The lizzland.com domain has been purchased in July 2000 and since then has served as a redirecting tool to the current Tripod server.]

14. Is LIZZLAND going to finish its run on the Internet anytime soon?
LIZZLAND is a force to be reckoned with. We are not going anywhere.

Frequently Asked Questions About The Guy Who Runs This Site

1. Why do you sometimes address yourself as "King Of All Lizz Winstead Fans"?
KOALWF is a title that I've given myself which integrates two of my idols: Howard Stern, who dubs himself "King Of All Media", and usually has followers who call in and call themselves "King Of All" this, and "King Of All" that; and of course, Lizz.

2. You seem to know a great deal about Lizz Winstead's life. Do you know her personally?
I've stated this several times on this site, and I'll state it again: I do not know Lizz Winstead personally. I get my information from websites I have mentioned earlier, and other resources as well, and not straight from her. She has never given me any personal information for me to put up, and should I happen to see her, I will never ask.

3. Has Lizz ever sent you any e-mail?
She has never e-mailed me; I don't even know if she has a computer!

4. Who else participates in programming LIZZLAND besides you?
Nope, LIZZLAND is a one-man-show, so to speak, I'm afraid. I do all the work on this website. Of course, you're welcom to help me in any way; go to
Help Wanted for more information.

5. So, is this website your whole life, or what?
Not exactly. I attend college, do some work on the side, so I'll only modify LIZZLAND during the great amount of time I have to spend on the Internet.

If there are any questions I didn't answer that should be put on this FAQ, please contact me at lizzland@mail.com and I'll take care of you. [Webmaster's addendum: I have graduated college in June 2000 and am now working full-time. Still, I don't have a great amount of time allotted to being online.]
